The 10km will have rolling staggered starts every two minutes from 10:00 until 10:10 There are narrow portions of the course within the first 1km, you'll be set off in groups to ease course congestion. Starting groups are not pre-assigned, you will be set off in groups of 50 as you present at the start line.

ON THE COURSE

Race Briefing – further details about the course and final reminders will be in the briefing. This will be online and found from August 14th.

Terrain - The course is mixed terrain and on firm ground. We take in towpaths, cycleways, footpaths and short sections of road. The ground is firm & suitable for road shoes currently, but as a mixed trail course, this is weather dependent!

50% of the course uses off-road surfaces, it is uneven and narrow in places.

Hilly/Flat? The route includes 31m of elevation gain throughout the 10km, so we would class that as FLAT.

The first and last 2km are the same (in reverse directions) and there is a lovely 6km circuit beyond that.

Canicross 10km – will complete the same route as the 10km event. Canicross competitors must keep their dogs on a harness throughout and can run with multiple dogs should they wish. However, prizes will only be awarded amongst those running with one dog.

Signage – the course is well signed with yellow arrows, red & white tape and KM markers. As a trail race, there will not be a marshal at every turn, look out for the signage and follow the arrows.

Headphones – we politely request that you do not use in-ear headphones for your own safety.

Water Refill Stations – TWO on course at 4.5km & 7km ONE at the start/finish. These are self service and you will need to carry your own drinks vessel with you – no cups are provided. There will be dog bowls.

Etiquette – there are some single file sections on the course, and the route is open to the general public, including dog walkers, cyclists, horse riders etc - please be courteous . There are two cattle grids on the course - you must use the gates to the side of the cattle grids. You may be in a race, but you don't have priority over others. The road sections are open to traffic.

COURSE IN DETAIL

We have a lovely multi terrain course for you.

You'll start in the Thames side parkland a short walk from the brewery, and take in a narrow footpath that crosses the river within the first 1km. You'll be starting in waves every two minutes in order to spread you out and ease navigation in the early stages.

It's Thames Towpath from 1km until 2.5km, where you'll find a tarmac lane which heads for the hamlet of Boveney and then Dorney Common and the 1st water refill station at 4.5km.

Across the road carefully and go through a few gates and you'll hit the Jubilee River towpath, a wide gravel cycleway until 6.3km.

A footpath takes you to the village of Eton Wick - keep to the pavements through the residential area and look out for traffic. After the 2nd water refill station in Eton Wick at 7km you cross back over the road to reach the Thames Path again at 8km.

From 8km you re-trace your steps from earlier to find the finish back in the park near the river.

50% of your route is on off-road surfaces and you have an elevation gain of 31m throughout. The terrain is firm enough to use road shoes. The ground is uneven on the trail sections, and some portions are narrow.

WARM WEATHER PLANS & ADVICE

We are due some warm & sunny weather over the event weekend, so we wanted to let you know what we do in such circumstances and to give some general advice to keep you more comfortable and safe.

The current weather forecast suggests we'll have between 22 & 25 degrees, with sunshine & light winds; most of us will consider that to be warm for running, so please take care of yourselves.

We are including two water refill stations for you around the course at 4.5km and 7km. Please note: you will need to carry your own drinks cup/ bottom/ vessel as cups are not provided.

20240811_082228a_edited.png

NO CUPS ARE PROVIDED at the water refill stations. We recommend that you carry your own drinks bottles/vessels/hydration packs around with you, and simply use the water stations to top up with.

Carrying your own bottles allows you to drink more throughout your run - rather than glugging a small mouthful from a cup sporadically as you might otherwise.

There is virtually no tree cover or shade around the course.

You may wish to wear loose fitting kit, we certainly recommend wearing sunglasses, hats and suncream.

Rehydrate thoroughly but slowly post event.

SPECTATOR INFO

As a trail running event, access to portions of the running route is limited. It is possible to drive to locations in Eton Wick, park up and then spectate nearby, however we would advise against driving to the Boveney area for runners safety as they will be using the roads there.

Unless you know the local area well enough to navigate yourself around, we would suggest that spectators stay onsite at the Windsor & Eton Brewery, or the start/finish area nearby throughout the event.

AT THE FINISH

Back at the finish line in the park you’ll see our big red Racing Line Running gantry. Cross the line and your result is automatically recorded.

You'll pick up your finishers medal, Windsor & Eton 10km pint cup, and your drink voucher; make sure that you don't lose yours - we don't give them out twice!! Remember, it's a short walk around the corner to the brewery to redeem your voucher there.

There will be water in containers for you to refill your own bottles or cups with too.

Results & Prizes – ‘live’ results will be available online courtesy of our timers, the awesome Timing Monkey.

Overall prizes will be issued at the finish line with Age Category prizes being posted out in the days after the race.
