The Mortimer 10km has a new look for 2021, with a new multi terrain course and new organisers. As always though, the race will start & finish on Mortimer Fairground, and we have a canicross entry option for those wishing to run the 10km with their dog(s).

PLEASE NOTE - to safely manage the event in accordance with Covid requirements, there will now be no walking event or 1km fun run.

Our new 10km course takes in the beautiful local woodlands, using footpaths and bridleways. The course is undulating and uneven in places, therefore not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs.

Registration – all race numbers to be collected on the day between 08:15 & 09:25

Entries on the day – none. All entries are in advance of race day.

Bag Drop – available for non-drivers only

Course signage – fully signed course using arrows, red & white tape and distance markers.

Terrain – footpaths, woodlands trails, gravel track & private roads. 65% off road.

Water Stations – TWO on the course: 4.0km and 7.9Km and at the start/finish. No cups are provided, carry your own bottle/cup. There will be dog bowls.

Cut off – 2 hours

Finish – medals, water, Twisted Tree 10km pint cup. Massage and food available for purchase.

Prizes – 1st Male & Female Canicross. 1st, 2nd & 3rd Female & Male runners in the 10km will receive prizes on the day.

Age category overall winners prizes to be posted out after race day.

GETTING TO THE EVENT

The event takes place from the Twisted Tree Brewery on the Tusmore Park Estate nr Bicester, OX27 7SH https://w3w.co/whips.friends.solicitor

Please plan to arrive in good time. Our car parking marshals will be in place from 08:00 onwards.

Event parking will be signed & marshalled from the Tusmore Estate entrance, and will direct you once onsite. Please car share wherever possible.

Cycling – you can find plenty of spaces onsite to lock up your bikes.

BEFORE THE START

Refreshments – teas, coffees, pastries, bacon rolls etc will be available from 08:00 onwards until the event finishes.

Post event there will be freshly made pizzas available also.

Registration - open between 08:15 & 09:25 and will be found adjacent to the start/finish.

Collect your race number and pins. Your race number should be visible & pinned on your front. Your race number contains your voucher for a free drink post-event; don't tear it off until after the event, you won't be given another if you lose yours!!

Start Time – the Canicross 10km will start at 09:25, with the 10km starting at 09:30. You will called to the start area 5 minutes before your start time.

Chip Timing – your timing chip is on the back of your race number, so your own start & finish times are taken.

Baggage – leave your bag in the car if you can. We will store bags at registration for those who have cycled.

Toilets – these are found in the brewery courtyard, and also next to the brewery building.

ON THE COURSE

Race Briefing – further details about the course and final reminders will be in the briefing. This will be online only and found from June 17th.

Terrain - The course is mixed terrain and on firm ground. We take in bridleways, gravel track, private estate roads, grass paths & footpaths.

65% of the course is on off-road surfaces, and it is uneven and narrow in places.

Hilly/Flat? The route includes 48m of elevation gain throughout the 10km – by our standards, that is pancake flat!

The first and last 1km are the same (in reverse directions) and there is a lovely 8km circuit beyond that.

Canicross 10km – will complete the same route as the 10km event. Canicross competitors must keep their dogs on a harness throughout and dogs need to be kept under control.

You can run with multiple dogs should they wish. However, prizes will only be awarded amongst those running with one dog.

Signage – the course is well signed with yellow arrows, red & white tape and KM markers. As a trail race, there will not be a marshal at every turn, look out for the signage and follow the arrows.

Headphones – we politely request that you do not use in-ear or over-ear headphones for your own safety. It is your responsibility to ensure that you can hear marshals instructions, traffic, other runners, horse riders, cyclists etc.

Water Refill Stations – TWO on course: 4.0km and 7.9km, ONE at the start/finish. These are self service and you will need to carry your own drinks vessel with you – no cups are provided. There will be dog bowls.

Etiquette – there are some brief single file sections on the course, and some of the route is open to the general public, potentially cyclists and horse riders - please be courteous and allow people appropriate space. You may be in a race, but you don't have priority over others. The road sections are not open to general public.

COURSE IN DETAIL

We have a lovely multi terrain 10km course for you, all of which is within the grounds of the stunning Tusmore Park Estate. The course features wide farm tracks, bridleways and footpaths, and only a very short stretches of tarmac road.

You'll start by leaving the brewery courtyard and joining a private track for 1.5km, before you open up into the estate grounds. You pick up a stunning path along an avenue of trees to 2.5km, before a gravel road takes you to the first water refill station at 4km.

From the water station you continue along a farm track to join another firm gravel road tracking some woodlands to a narrow footbridge at 6.5km. One of the route highlights comes at 6.8km as run past the Tusmore Obelisk - you'll know it when you see it!

Across some scenic parkland heading towards Tusmore Park House and the 2nd water station just before 8km. A wide grass track and a path through an orchard brings you back to 9km and simply retrace the first KM back to the finish line.

65% of your route is on off-road surfaces and you have an elevation gain of just 48m throughout. The terrain is firm enough to use road shoes. Some of the ground is uneven on the trail sections, and some portions are narrow.

SPECTATOR INFO

As the running route takes in a private estate, access to portions of the course is for runners only. There are some public footpaths cutting across the estate that spectators are entitled to use, one is directly from the start/finish line and takes you to the 8.5km mark.

Beyond that, we suggest that spectators stay onsite at the Twisted Tree Brewery throughout the event. Our 10km is the final part of their beer festival weekend, so onsite you'll find food & drink of course, along with bouncy castle and other things to keep your entertained throughout the event.

AT THE FINISH

Back at the finish line you’ll see our big red Racing Line Running gantry, just a stones throw from the brewery courtyard.

Cross the line and your result is automatically recorded. You'll pick up your finishers medal & Twisted Tree 10km pint cup. Your drink voucher (attached to your race number) can be taken to any of the bars for your free drink. Make sure that you don't lose your voucher - we don't give them out twice!!

There will be water in containers for you to refill your own bottles or cups with too.

Results & Prizes – ‘live’ results will be available online courtesy of our timers, the awesome Rogue Racer.

Overall prizes will be issued at the finish line with Age Category prizes being posted out in the days after the race.

Drink Voucher - on your race number is your free drink voucher. This is for one free drink and to be used on race day only.

You can redeem your voucher for any pint of draught beer, a bottle of beer to takeaway or for a soft drink. Vouchers can be redeemed in any of the brewery bars.

Refreshments – our fabulous catering team will be ready to serve from 08:00, with a whole host of hot food options, snacks, and hot & cold drinks too.

Mihai from Vanillo Cookies is with us for the event, he’ll be fully stocked with an amazing selection of his freshly baked cookies.

Massage – Muscle & Mind will be on hand to ease those aching muscles both pre and post event. A 10 minute massage is available for just £10 – cash payment available but contactless payment preferred.
