The Mortimer 10km has a new look for 2021, with a new multi terrain course and new organisers. As always though, the race will start & finish on Mortimer Fairground, and we have a canicross entry option for those wishing to run the 10km with their dog(s).

PLEASE NOTE - to safely manage the event in accordance with Covid requirements, there will now be no walking event or 1km fun run.

Our new 10km course takes in the beautiful local woodlands, using footpaths and bridleways. The course is undulating and uneven in places, therefore not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs.

Refreshments – teas, coffees, pastries, bacon rolls etc will be available from 08:30 onwards until the event finishes.

We also have Mihai and the team from Vanillo Cookies with us for the event, and the brilliant Sweet Daisy.

Registration - open between 08:30 & 09:45 and will be found in the brewery coutryard.

Collect your race number and pins. Your race number should be visible & pinned on your front.

Start Time – the Canicross 10km will start at 09:50, with the 10km starting at 10:00. You will called to the start area 5 minutes before your start time.

Chip Timing – your timing chip is on the back of your race number, so your own start & finish times are taken.

Baggage – leave your bag in the car if you can. We will store bags at registration for those who have cycled.

Toilets – these are found to rear of the brewery, 50m from race registration. There are also toilets inside the brewery.

ON THE COURSE

Race Briefing – further details about the course and final reminders will be in the briefing. This will be online only and found from September 3rd.

Terrain - The course is mixed terrain and on firm ground. We take in bridleways, farm tracks, and footpaths, private fields and local roads. The ground is firm & suitable for road shoes currently, but as a mixed trail course, this is weather dependent!

70% of the course is off-road, it is uneven and narrow in places.

The course starts & finishes in the farmers field across the road from the brewery.

Hilly/Flat? The route includes 166m of elevation gain throughout the 10km – it does of course also lose 166m as well!

Canicross 10km – will complete the same route as the 10km event. Canicross competitors must keep their dogs on a harness throughout and can run with multiple dogs should they wish. However, prizes will only be awarded amongst those running with one dog.

Signage – the course is well signed with yellow arrows, red & white tape and KM markers. As a trail race, there will not be a marshal at every turn, look out for the signage and follow the arrows.

Headphones – we politely request that you do not use in-ear headphones for your own safety.

Water Refill Stations – TWO on course: 3.5km and 7km, ONE at the start/finish. These are self service and you will need to carry your own drinks vessel with you – no cups are provided. There will be dog bowls.

Etiquette – there are some single file sections on the course, and the route is open to the general public, potentially cyclists and horse riders - please be courteous and allow people appropriate space. You may be in a race, but you don't have priority over others. The road sections are open to traffic.

COURSE IN DETAIL

We have a new and improved multi terrain 10km course for you this year. The course features farm tracks, woodlands, bridleways and footpaths,  and a couple of stretches of road.

You'll start in the farmers field opposite the brewery and pick up a private track for the first 1km. As with many portions of the 10km route, the views across the countryside are stunning.

A short section of single track footpath takes you to a woodland trail before reaching 3.5km and the first water refill point.

Route 2025 MARKED.jpg

From the water station you cut through another woodland to reach some wide gravel tracks, leading downhill to join a country lane at 5.7km. The lane descends gently to 7km and the 2nd water refill station.

From 7km you climb a narrow footpath opening into trees and a byway at 8km, where you drop down to a road section from 8.5km. Follow the road, with views in all directions, to 9.5km and then track the edge of the private farmland again back to the finish opposite the brewery.

70% of your route is off-road and you have an elevation gain of 166m throughout. Currently the terrain is firm enough to use road shoes, but keep an eye on the weather as we approach race day. The ground is uneven on the trail sections, and some portions are narrow.

SPECTATOR INFO

As a trail running event, access to portions of the running route is very limited, and we would advise against driving around the local lanes that make up some of the race day course for runners safety.

We suggest that spectators stay onsite at the SOX Brewery throughout the event.

AT THE FINISH

Back at the finish line in the field just across the road from the brewery you’ll see our big red Racing Line Running gantry. Cross the line and your result is automatically recorded.

You'll pick up your finishers medal, SOX 10km pint cup, and your drink voucher; make sure that you don't lose yours - we don't give them out twice!!

There will be water in containers for you to refill your own bottles or cups with too.
