The Mortimer 10km has a new look for 2021, with a new multi terrain course and new organisers. As always though, the race will start & finish on Mortimer Fairground, and we have a canicross entry option for those wishing to run the 10km with their dog(s).
PLEASE NOTE - to safely manage the event in accordance with Covid requirements, there will now be no walking event or 1km fun run.
Our new 10km course takes in the beautiful local woodlands, using footpaths and bridleways. The course is undulating and uneven in places, therefore not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs.

Registration -
All race numbers are to be collected on the day – no race packs are being posted out in advance. Your race number has a timing chip on the reverse, so please don’t bend or fold it.

The start line is across the road, just 100m from race registration.
Water Stations – TWO on the course: 3.5km and 7.0Km and at the start/finish. No cups are provided, carry your own bottle/cup. There will be dog bowls.

Safety -
The course is likely to be uneven underfoot at times, look after yourselves and others. Along the road sections of the course, please keep tight to the left hand side at all points & listen out for marshals instructions. You do not have priority on the public paths or on the roads, be courteous and be safe.

Signage -
The course is signed with yellow arrows as well as red and white tape tied to trees/bushes. Each kilometre point will be marked. If you do not see any signage, go back to where you last saw an arrow. Pay attention!

The course -

We have a new and improved multi terrain 10km course for you this year. The course features farm tracks, woodlands, bridleways and footpaths, and a couple of stretches of road.

You'll start in the farmers field opposite the brewery and pick up a private track for the first 1km. As with many portions of the 10km route, the views across the countryside are stunning.
A short section of single track footpath takes you to a woodland trail before reaching 3.5km and the first water refill point.

From the water station you cut through another woodland to reach some wide gravel tracks, leading downhill to join a country lane at 5.7km. The lane descends gently to 7km and the 2nd water refill station.

From 7km you climb a narrow footpath opening into trees and a byway at 8km, where you drop down to a road section from 8.5km. Follow the road, with views in all directions, to 9.5km and then track the edge of the private farmland again back to the finish opposite the brewery.

70% of your route is off-road and you have an elevation gain of 166m throughout. Currently the terrain is firm enough to use road shoes, but keep an eye on the weather as we approach race day. The ground is uneven on the trail sections, and some portions are narrow.

Finish -
As you cross the finish line your result will be live online via the event website.
On finishing, you'll receive your finishers medal, SOX 10km cup and drink voucher. Water containers are ready for you to fill your own bottles. Remember – no cups are provided.

From the finish line, it is just across the road to the brewery, and you can redeem your voucher; it can be used once, and on event day only. The bar in the brewery building will be open, along with the mobile bar next to race registration. You can collect your drink as soon as you cross the finish line.
Hot & Cold drinks and hot food are available to purchase from our vendors, Sweet Daisy, and our great friends from Vanillo Cookies are back with their awesome range.

Massage is available near the finish area for £10 for 10 mins.

Prizes will be given out at the finish line, with age category prizes being posted out afterwards.
Thank You -
Firstly, thank you to the team from the SOX Brewery and Icknield Farm. Thank you to our race timer, Timing Monkey, Muscle & Mind, Vanillo Cookies, Sweet Daisy, and our medics from Beyond First Aid.

Most of all though, and please show your appreciation when you see them, thank you to our race day volunteers and our race photographers.

WE'LL SEE YOU ON SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 7TH
