BEFORE THE START

Race Number

Registration - open between 08:30 & 09:45 and will be found by the orchard next the brewery building.

Collect your race number and pins. Your race number should be visible & pinned on your front. At the bottom of your race number is a tear-off strip; this is your drink voucher.

Refreshments – teas, coffees, pastries, bacon rolls etc will be available from ‘Dave’ the Renegade van from 08:00 until 12:00. We also have Neil from CrazyDayz Doughnuts!!

The full breakfast service from the taproom is available between 08:00 & 10:30. (lunch service starts at 11:00 on race day)

Start Time & Procedures – the Canicross 10km will start at 09:50. The 10km will start in two waves, at 10:00 & at 10:05. The waves are not pre-assigned, our recommendation is that if you anticipate finishing in 1 hr or under, start at 10:00. If you think you'll be 1 hr or more, start at 10:05.

This is to ease congestion along the farm track directly after the start.

Chip Timing – your timing chip is on the back of your race number, so your own start & finish times are taken.

Baggage – leave your bag in the car if you can. We will store bags at registration for those who have cycled.

Toilets – these are found between the car park & race registration. There are also toilets within the brewery tap room.

Ales & Trails T-Shirt Photo - if you own an Ales & Trails t-shirt, please do wear it for race day. We will gather everyone wearing their t-shirt together for a pre-event photo in front of the brewery building at 09:40

ON THE COURSE

Race Briefing – further details about the course and final reminders will be in the briefing. This will be online only and found from July 8th.

Terrain - The course is mixed terrain and on firm ground. We take in small local roads, woodlands and footpaths. The ground is firm & suitable for road shoes currently, but as a mixed trail course, this is weather dependent!

75% of the course is off-road, it is uneven and narrow in places.

Hilly/Flat? The route includes 140m of elevation gain throughout the 10km – it does of course also lose 140m as well!

The first and last 1.6km are the same (in reverse directions) and there is a lovely 7km circuit beyond that.

Canicross 10km – will complete the same route as the 10km event. Canicross competitors must keep their dogs on a harness throughout and can run with multiple dogs should they wish. However, prizes will only be awarded amongst those running with one dog.

Signage – the course is well signed with yellow arrows, red & white tape and KM markers. As a trail race, there will not be a marshal at every turn, look out for the signage and follow the arrows.

Headphones – we politely request that you do not use in-ear headphones for your own safety.

Water Refill Stations – TWO on course: 4km and 7km, ONE at the start/finish. These are self service and you will need to carry your own drinks vessel with you – no cups are provided. There will be dog bowls.

Etiquette – there are some single file sections on the course, and the route is open to the general public - please be courteous . You may be in a race, but you don't have priority over others. The road sections are open to traffic, keep left and yield to traffic if required.

COURSE IN DETAIL

We have a new and improved multi terrain 10km course for you this year. The course features wide farm tracks, bridleways, footpaths and woodland trails, and about 2.5km of local lanes.

You'll start on a track leaving the brewery for the first 1km before reaching a road. You'll retrace your steps here later on the way back to the finish line. We'll keep you on a wide country lane from 1km until 3km, and that'll give you chance to spread out before hitting the trails.

From 3km you'll take a beautiful forestry path to the 1st drink station at 4km.

Runners

More woodland trail to halfway before a wide track through shade takes you to the 7km mark and the 2nd water refill point. Two short single track sections see you reach 8km, and shortly afterwards you pop out onto the road for a descent to 9km and the return to the brewery.

75% of your route is off-road and you have an elevation gain of 140m throughout. Currently the terrain is firm enough to use road shoes. The ground is uneven on the trail sections, and some portions are narrow.

WARM WEATHER PLANS & ADVICE

In light of recent warm & sunny weather, and a warm race last year, we wanted to let you know what we do in such circumstances and to give some general advice to keep you more comfortable and safe.

For hot race days we increase water provision, and the regularity of water refill stations. We'll be keeping the two water stations from 2025 as standard.

The two water refill stations for you around the course at 4km and 7km. Please note: you will need to carry your own drinks cup/ bottom/ vessel as cups are not provided, even on warm and sunny days.

We have amended last years route to include more shade; we prefer the route and so have kept it.

Water Containers

TO CONFIRM, NO CUPS ARE PROVIDED at the water refill stations. We recommend that you carry your own drinks bottles/vessels/hydration packs around with you, and simply use the water stations to top up with.

Carrying your own bottles allows you to drink more - you will keep better hydrated drinking sipping little & often throughout your run.

80% of the route is under tree cover and has shade.

You may wish to wear loose fitting kit, we certainly recommend wearing sunglasses, hats and suncream.

Rehydrate thoroughly but slowly post event.

We will contact Canicross entrants separately pre-event if the forecast is warm - you will have options! It may be necessary for us to cancel the Canicross event for the welfare of our four legged friends.

SPECTATOR INFO

As a trail running event, access to portions of the running route is very limited, and we would advise against driving around the local lanes that make up some of the race day course for runners safety.

We suggest that spectators stay onsite at the Renegade Brewery throughout the event.

AT THE FINISH

Back at the finish line opposite the brewery you’ll see our big red Racing Line Running gantry. Cross the line and your result is automatically recorded.

You'll pick up your finishers medal & Renegade 10km pint cup. Your voucher for a free drink at the bar is a tear-off strip on your race number; make sure that you don't lose yours - we don't give them out twice!!

There will be water in containers for you to refill your own bottles or cups with too.

Results & Prizes – ‘live’ results will be available online courtesy of our timers, the awesome Timing Monkey.

Prizes will be issued at the finish line; if you think that you may have won one, don't go too far. With the two wave start to the 10km event, we'll need to wait a few minutes to confirm prizes winners.
