The Mortimer 10km has a new look for 2021, with a new multi terrain course and new organisers. As always though, the race will start & finish on Mortimer Fairground, and we have a canicross entry option for those wishing to run the 10km with their dog(s).

PLEASE NOTE - to safely manage the event in accordance with Covid requirements, there will now be no walking event or 1km fun run.

Our new 10km course takes in the beautiful local woodlands, using footpaths and bridleways. The course is undulating and uneven in places, therefore not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs.

Getting To Ramsbury

BEFORE THE START

Ramsbury

Refreshments – teas, coffees, pastries, bacon rolls etc will be available from 08:15 onwards until the event finishes.

We also have Mihai and the team from Vanillo Cookies with us for the event.

Registration - open between 08:15 & 09:45 and will be found in the brewery barn.

Collect your race number and pins. Your race number should be visible & pinned on your front.

Start Time – the Half Marathon starts first at 09:30, with the Canicross 10km starting at 09:50, and the 10km starting at 10:00. You will called to the start area 5 minutes before your start time.

Chip Timing – your timing chip is on the back of your race number, so your own start & finish times are taken.

Baggage – leave your bag in the car if you can. We will store bags at registration for those who have cycled.

Toilets – these are found in the barn near race registration. There are also toilets adjacent to the brewery shop.

ON THE COURSE

Race Briefing – further details about the course and final reminders will be in the briefing. This will be online only and found from March 11th.

Terrain - The course is mixed terrain and largely on firm ground. We take in bridleways, farm tracks, footpaths and some quiet roads. The ground is fairly firm & just about take either road or off-road shoes currently, but as a mixed trail course, this is weather dependent! We'll keep you updated on course conditions.

80-85% of the course is off-road, it is uneven and narrow in places.

Hilly/Flat? The Half Marathon route includes 300m of elevation gain, whilst the 10km gains 175m – they do of course also lose the same elevation as well!

The first and last 1.5km are the same (in reverse directions) on both courses.

Canicross 10km – will complete the same route as the 10km event. Canicross competitors must keep their dogs on a harness throughout and can run with multiple dogs should they wish. However, prizes will only be awarded amongst those running with one dog.

Signage – the course is well signed with yellow arrows, red & white tape and Mile or KM markers. As a trail race, there will not be a marshal at every turn, look out for the signage and follow the arrows.

Headphones – we politely request that you do not use in-ear headphones for your own safety.

Water Refill Stations – THREE on the Half Marathon: 3.6 Miles, 7.1 Miles and 10.8 Miles, and ONE on the 10km course at 6.3km. These are self service and you will need to carry your own drinks vessel with you – no cups are provided. There will be dog bowls.

Etiquette – there are some single file sections on the course, and the route is open to the general public, potentially cyclists and horse riders - please be courteous and allow people appropriate space. You may be in a race, but YOU DO NOT HAVE PRIORITY OVER OTHERS. The road sections are open to traffic.

COURSE IN DETAIL

Both courses start and finish with a 1.6km/1 Mile approx out and back section from brewery. The first part of the course drops downs into a valley - as you retrace your steps here later on the way back to the finish line, you might want to keep a little in reserve!

Just after the 1 Mile mark, the HALF MARATHON course turns right to follow the BLUE line on the course map.

At the course split (1.6km), the 10KM course goes straight on to follow the ORANGE line on the map. For those who took part in our August 10km last year, the course is the same, BUT goes in the opposite direction!

The courses features wide farm tracks, bridleways and footpaths, short sections of tarmac road, and the Half Marathon course follows a part of the Ridgeway Trail and a cycleway along a disused railway line.

In the 10km, you have ONE water refill station at 6.3km, whilst the Half Marathon runners will find THREE water refill stations, at 3.6 Miles, 7.1 Miles and at 10.8 Miles. â€‹

Both courses definitely fall into the 'undulating' category! However, the terrain and scenery are superb

The 10km is 85% off-road and you have an elevation gain of 175m throughout.

The Half Marathon is 80% off-road and has an elevation gain of 300m throughout.

Currently the terrain is quite firm given the amount of rain we've had, but is wet and muddy in places. On balance, we would probably favour an off-road shoe currently, but keep an eye on the weather as we approach race day. The ground is uneven on the trail sections, and some portions are narrow.

SPECTATOR INFO

As a trail running event, access to portions of the running route is very limited. If you know the area reasonably well, their are locations to spectate Half Marathon runners on foot near the Ridgeway section, or it's a 5-10 min drive to the village of Mildenhall. For 10km supporters, and we would advise against driving around the local lanes that make up some of the race day course for runners safety.

We suggest that most spectators stay onsite at the Ramsbury Brewery throughout the event.

AT THE FINISH

Back at the finish line in the brewery courtyard you’ll see our big red Racing Line Running gantry. Cross the line and your result is automatically recorded.

You'll pick up your finishers medal & Ramsbury Half Marathon & 10km pint cup. Your drink voucher is a tear off strip at the bottom of your race number; make sure that you don't lose yours!!

There will be water in containers for you to refill your own bottles or cups with too.
