The Mortimer 10km has a new look for 2021, with a new multi terrain course and new organisers. As always though, the race will start & finish on Mortimer Fairground, and we have a canicross entry option for those wishing to run the 10km with their dog(s).
PLEASE NOTE - to safely manage the event in accordance with Covid requirements, there will now be no walking event or 1km fun run.
Our new 10km course takes in the beautiful local woodlands, using footpaths and bridleways. The course is undulating and uneven in places, therefore not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs.

MORTIMER 10KM
MORTIMER 10KM - RACE BRIEFING
Welcome to the Mortimer 10km, our fifth running of a revamped version of the longstanding event.

Please make sure that you have read the race instructions on the event website. It is assumed that you have read and understood this brief prior to attending the event.

Event Day Timetable –
09:00 - Canicross 10km event starts
09:15 – 10km event starts

Registration -
All race numbers are to be collected on the day – no race packs are being posted out in advance. Your race number has a timing chip on the reverse, so please don’t bend or fold them.

Race Registration is open from 08:00 – 09:00 on Mortimer Fairground, a short distance from the start/finish.
Be sure you to arrive in good time for you start time.

The course -
We have a beautiful 10km route for you and around 85% is off road. It is suitable for either road or off-road shoes.

We start in Mortimer Fairground and use a short section of road within the first kilometre before commencing the first of two laps. It's a two lap course around the woodlands, then you return to the start/finish area for the finish only..

Just after the 5km mark, follow signs for the ‘Next Lap’. You reach this point again after 9.3km, where you follow signs for the ‘Finish’.
There are some sections along narrow footpaths, so please be courteous of footpath users, and be patient if you’d like to overtake.

Parts of the course are a little uneven underfoot and there are tree roots throughout the woodland areas. You’ll see some mud for short stretches too.

There are a couple of stretches along local roads – keep left unless told otherwise and listen for marshals instructions. Cars are bigger than you, give way if you have to.

The last few hundred metres of the course is back within Mortimer Fairground again.
Water stations -
There are no water stations around the route this year. You are able to fill your own bottles at the start/finish area – this is self service – a reminder again – there are no cups provided.

Safety -
The course is likely to be uneven underfoot at times, look after yourselves and others. Along the road sections of the course, please keep tight to the left hand side at all points & listen out for marshals instructions.

Signage -
The course is signed with yellow arrows as well as red and white tape tied to trees/bushes. Each kilometre point will be marked. If you do not see any signage, go back to where you last saw an arrow. Pay attention!

Finish -
As you cross the finish line your result will be live online via the event website.
On finishing, please keep moving and help yourself to your finishers medal and water. Water containers are ready for you to fill your own bottles. Remember – no cups are provided.
Hot & Cold drinks are available to buy, along with some amazing cookies, and a choice of beers from Mysterious Brewing, including the limited edition Mortimer 10km Ale.

To aid your recovery, we have massage available from Muscle & Mind, and the team from the Horse Box Sauna company are on hand with their pop-up sauna! Pre booking is available if you want to guarantee your spot. Just book HERE

Prizes will be given out at the finish line, with age category prizes being posted out afterwards.
