The Mortimer 10km has a new look for 2021, with a new multi terrain course and new organisers. As always though, the race will start & finish on Mortimer Fairground, and we have a canicross entry option for those wishing to run the 10km with their dog(s).

PLEASE NOTE - to safely manage the event in accordance with Covid requirements, there will now be no walking event or 1km fun run.

Our new 10km course takes in the beautiful local woodlands, using footpaths and bridleways. The course is undulating and uneven in places, therefore not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs.

The course -

We have a beautiful 10km route for you and around 85% is off road. It is suitable for either road or off-road shoes.

We start in Mortimer Fairground and use a short section of road within the first kilometre before commencing the first of two laps. It's a two lap course around the woodlands, then you return to the start/finish area for the finish only..

Just after the 5km mark, follow signs for the ‘Next Lap’. You reach this point again after 9.3km, where you follow signs for the ‘Finish’.

There are some sections along narrow footpaths, so please be courteous of footpath users, and be patient if you’d like to overtake.

Parts of the course are a little uneven underfoot and there are tree roots throughout the woodland areas. You’ll see some mud for short stretches too.

There are a couple of stretches along local roads – keep left unless told otherwise and listen for marshals instructions. Cars are bigger than you, give way if you have to.

The last few hundred metres of the course is back within Mortimer Fairground again.

Water stations -

There are no water stations around the route this year. You are able to fill your own bottles at the start/finish area – this is self service – a reminder again – there are no cups provided.

Safety -

The course is likely to be uneven underfoot at times, look after yourselves and others. Along the road sections of the course, please keep tight to the left hand side at all points & listen out for marshals instructions.

There is a road crossing shortly after the start, and shortly before the finish - YOU WILL NEED TO STOP FOR TRAFFIC if there is any. The decision as to when it is safe to cross roads is with you.

Signage -

The course is signed with yellow arrows as well as red and white tape tied to trees/bushes. Each kilometre point will be marked. If you do not see any signage, go back to where you last saw an arrow. Pay attention!

Etiquette -

There are some short narrow portions on the course, so please be aware of others, be courteous and shout ahead if you're overtaking (especially overtaking dogs). You do not have priority over pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders etc.
