The Mortimer 10km has a new look for 2021, with a new multi terrain course and new organisers. As always though, the race will start & finish on Mortimer Fairground, and we have a canicross entry option for those wishing to run the 10km with their dog(s).
PLEASE NOTE - to safely manage the event in accordance with Covid requirements, there will now be no walking event or 1km fun run.
Our new 10km course takes in the beautiful local woodlands, using footpaths and bridleways. The course is undulating and uneven in places, therefore not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs.

Registration - open between 08:00 & 08:55 and will be found at the cricket pavilion.
Collect your race number and pins. Your race number should be visible & pinned on your front.

Start Time – 09:00 for Half Marathon; you’ll be called to the start line at 08:55.
09:15 for 10 mile runners. You'll be called to the start line at 09:10.

Chip Timing – your timing chip is on the back of your race number, so your own start & finish times are taken.
Baggage – leave your bag in the car if you can. Alternatively, bags can be left (at your own risk) in the cricket pavilion adjacent to race registration.
Toilets – these are found next to race registration, within 100m of the start line.
WARM WEATHER PLANS & ADVICE
We are due some warm & sunny weather over the event weekend, so we wanted to let you know what we do in such circumstances and to give some general advice to keep you more comfortable and safe.
The current weather forecast suggests we'll have between 23 & 27 degrees, with sunshine & light winds; most of us will consider that to be warm for running, so please take care of yourselves.
We are including additional water refill stations for you around the course - 10 Mile runners will now have 5 water stations, and Half Marathon runners will see 8 water stations around their route.
10 Mile runners will find the water refill stations at 1.8, 3.0, 4.2, 7.5 & 8.6 miles.
Half Marathon runners will find their water refill stations at 1.8, 3.0, 4.2, 5.3, 7.9, 9.1, 11.3 & 12.4 miles
Along with the extra water stops, we are more than doubling our usual water supply, so you can drink little and often throughout.
NO CUPS ARE PROVIDED at the water refill stations, you will need to carry your own drinks bottles/vessels/hydration packs around with you, and simply use the water stations to top up with. Carrying your own bottles allows you to drink more throughout your run - rather than glugging a small mouthful from a cup sporadically as you might otherwise.
40-45% of each route is under tree cover and has shade. This is not an event for a PB even on a cool day, so pace yourself and enjoy it; the option is there for Half Marathon runners to drop to the 10 Mile distance (7.1 miles is the decision point) if you need to.
You may wish to wear loose fitting kit, we certainly recommend wearing sunglasses, hats and suncream. Rehydrate thoroughly but slowly post event.
ON THE COURSE
Race Briefing – further details about the course and final reminders will be in the briefing. This will be online only and found from June 19th.

Terrain - The course is mixed terrain and on firm ground. We take in small local roads, woodlands and footpaths. The ground is firm & suitable for road shoes currently, but as a mixed terrain course, this is weather dependent!
Hilly? Yes. The 10 Mile course has five notable climbs; at 0.1, 3.5, 4.7, 5.9 & 9.3 miles.

The Half Marathon follows the same course, however, completes TWO CLOCKWISE LAPS of the loop at North end of the course. It has eight hills; at 0.1, 3.5, 4.7, 5.9, 7.4, 8.5, 9.8 & 13.1 miles.
Distance – the half marathon measures 14.3 miles!
COURSE IN DETAIL
10 Mile – includes 5 water stations & 5 notable hills. At the course split point at 7.1 miles, follow signs for the FINISH.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Half Marathon – has 8 water stations and a total of 8 hills.
Runners should look for the course split at 7.1 Miles to take in a 2nd lap.

Complete your 2nd loop and then head for the FINISH.
Please be aware that the half marathon measures at a rather generous 14.3 miles, so not a day for that PB!

Half marathon runners will need to reach the course split at 7.1 miles by 1hr 25 mins to continue on the Half marathon course.

If you arrive at the 7.1 mile point after 10:25, a marshal will politely guide you to complete the 10 Mile event instead.

Cut Off Times - as soon as we mention this, people worry, we know that.

We are required to be packed up and offsite by a certain time after the event; this means that all runners must be finished by 12:15 latest.

The cut off time at 7.1 miles is intended to not add pressure to your run, but to give you a sensible option to finish in good time. Swap distances if you need to.
Signage – the course is well signed with yellow arrows, red & white tape and mile markers.

As a multi terrain race, there will not be a marshal stood next to every arrow!
Headphones – we politely request that you do not use in-ear headphones for your own safety.

Water Stations – 5 on the 10 Mile course & 8 on the Half Marathon. These are self service and you will need to bring your own drinks vessel with you – no cups are provided.

Overtaking – with some single file sections on the course, please be courteous of others.

SPECTATOR INFO
Spectators wishing to see more of the course should do so on foot - driving on the running route may endanger runners as the country lanes here are very narrow. It's possible to walk to the nearby hamlet of Pheasants Hill and return to the finish are before runners arrive again.
If you feel that you know the area well enough to find locations to park a car near the route, then please do so with care. If you don't know the area, we suggest that you stay onsite at the Start/Finish area.
AT THE FINISH
Back at the finish line on the Dene you’ll see our big red Racing Line Running gantry. Cross the line and your result is automatically recorded.

You’ll need to help yourself to a medal & some snacks. There will be water in containers for you refill with.

Results & Prizes – ‘live’ results will be available online courtesy of event timers Rogue Racer.

Rogue Racer course split times will be live online via the results link; spectators can follow online or at the finish line!
Overall prizes will be issued at the finish line with Age Category prizes being posted out in the days after the race.
