The Mortimer 10km has a new look for 2021, with a new multi terrain course and new organisers. As always though, the race will start & finish on Mortimer Fairground, and we have a canicross entry option for those wishing to run the 10km with their dog(s).
PLEASE NOTE - to safely manage the event in accordance with Covid requirements, there will now be no walking event or 1km fun run.
Our new 10km course takes in the beautiful local woodlands, using footpaths and bridleways. The course is undulating and uneven in places, therefore not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs.

MIDSUMMER MURDER
RACE BRIEFING
Welcome to the fifth running of the Midsummer Murder Trail Race.

Please make sure that you have read the race instructions on the event website. It is assumed that you have read and understood this brief prior to attending the event. Pay particular attention to our Warm Weather section below.

Event Day Timetable –
09:00 - Half Marathon event starts
09:15 – 10 Mile event starts

Registration -
All race numbers are to be collected on the day – no race packs are being posted out in advance. Your race number has a timing chip on the reverse, so please don’t bend or fold them.

Race Registration is open from 08:00 – 08:55 at the cricket pavilion, a short distance from the start/finish.
Be sure you to arrive in good time for you start time.

Water refill stations -
There are 5 water refill stations on the 10 Mile course and 8 on the Half Marathon course. You must run with your own bottles/hydration packs/cups – a reminder again, there are no cups provided.

Safety -
The course is likely to be uneven underfoot at times, look after yourselves and others. Along the road sections of the course, please keep tight to the left hand side at all points unless told otherwise & listen for marshals instructions.

Signage -
The course is signed with yellow arrows as well as red and white tape tied to trees/bushes. Each mile point will be marked. Mile markers for the Half Marathon will be in Orange from Mile 8 onwards. If you do not see any signage, go back to where you last saw an arrow. Pay attention!

The course -
10 Mile – includes 5 water stations & 5 notable hills. At the course split point at 7.1 miles, follow signs for the FINISH.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Half Marathon – has 8 water stations and a total of 8 hills.
Runners should look for the course split at 7.1 Miles to take in a 2nd lap.

Complete your 2nd loop and then head for the FINISH.
Please be aware that the half marathon measures at a rather generous 14.3 miles, so not a day for that PB!

Half marathon runners will need to reach the course split at 7.1 miles by 1hr 25 mins to continue on the Half marathon course.

If you arrive at the 7.1 mile point after 10:25, a marshal will politely guide you to complete the 10 Mile event instead.

Cut Off Times - as soon as we mention this, people worry, we know that.

We are required to be packed up and offsite by a certain time after the event; this means that all runners must be finished by 12:15 latest.

The cut off time at 7.1 miles is intended to not add pressure to your run, but to give you a sensible option to finish in good time. Swap distances if you need to - inform us at the finish if you do.

Finish -
As you cross the finish line your result will be live online via the event website.
On finishing, you'll be given your finishers medal; you'll also find water containers and snacks.
Hot & Cold drinks & food are available to buy, along with some amazing doughnuts, courtesy of CrazyDayz Doughnuts.

To aid your recovery, we have massage available from Muscle & Mind

Prizes will be given out at the finish line, with age category prizes being posted out afterwards.

Thank You -
Firstly, thank you to Hambleden Sports & Social Club, Hambleden Parish Council, Hambleden Manor & the good people of Hambleden valley. Thank you to our race timer, Rogue Racer, Muscle & Mind, our medics from Beyond First Aid, Coffee on the Green, CrazyDayz Doughnuts and our sponsors Stillman Insurance.

Most of all though, and please show your appreciation when you see them, thank you to our race day volunteers and our race photographers.
WARM WEATHER PLANS & ADVICE
We are due some warm & sunny weather over the event weekend, so we wanted to let you know what we do in such circumstances and to give some general advice to keep you more comfortable and safe.
The current weather forecast suggests we'll have between 23 & 27 degrees, with sunshine & light winds; most of us will consider that to be warm for running, so please take care of yourselves.
We are including additional water refill stations for you around the course - 10 Mile runners will now have 5 water stations, and Half Marathon runners will see 8 water stations around their route.
10 Mile runners will find the water refill stations at 1.8, 3.0, 4.2, 7.5 & 8.6 miles.
Half Marathon runners will find their water refill stations at 1.8, 3.0, 4.2, 5.3, 7.9, 9.1, 11.3 & 12.4 miles

Along with the extra water stops, we are more than doubling our usual water supply, so you can drink little and often throughout.
NO CUPS ARE PROVIDED at the water refill stations, you will need to carry your own drinks bottles/vessels/hydration packs around with you, and simply use the water stations to top up with. Carrying your own bottles allows you to drink more throughout your run - rather than glugging a small mouthful from a cup sporadically as you might otherwise.
40-45% of each route is under tree cover and has shade. This is not an event for a PB even on a cool day, so pace yourself and enjoy it; the option is there for Half Marathon runners to drop to the 10 Mile distance (7.1 miles is the decision point) if you need to. Inform us at the finish, if so.
You may wish to wear loose fitting kit, we certainly recommend wearing sunglasses, hats and suncream. Rehydrate thoroughly but slowly post event.
WE'LL SEE YOU ON SUNDAY JUNE 22ND
