The Mortimer 10km has a new look for 2021, with a new multi terrain course and new organisers. As always though, the race will start & finish on Mortimer Fairground, and we have a canicross entry option for those wishing to run the 10km with their dog(s).

PLEASE NOTE - to safely manage the event in accordance with Covid requirements, there will now be no walking event or 1km fun run.

Our new 10km course takes in the beautiful local woodlands, using footpaths and bridleways. The course is undulating and uneven in places, therefore not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs.

ON THE COURSE

Race Briefing – further details about the course and final reminders will be in the briefing. This will be online only and found from June 4th.

Terrain - The course is mixed terrain and on mainly firm ground, with short sections on potentially muddy trails. We take in very brief sections of small local roads, woodlands, farm tracks and footpaths. The course is currently dry throughout and we suggest using road shoes, subject to the weather. Some sections will be uneven underfoot.

Flat/Hilly/Undulating? The 10km has a total elevation gain of 162m, and contains a few undulations, with a small climb in the first 1km and then a long drag between 6km & 8km.

Canicross 10km – will complete the same route as the 10km event. Canicross competitors must keep their dogs on a harness throughout and can run with multiple dogs should they wish. However, prizes will only be awarded amongst those running with one dog.

Signage – the course is well signed with yellow arrows, red & white tape and KM markers. As a trail race, there will not be a marshal at every turn, look out for the signage and follow the arrows.

Headphones – we politely request that you do not use in-ear headphones for your own safety.

Water Refill Stations – ONE on course at 4.5km, ONE at the start/finish. These are self service and you will need to carry your own drinks vessel with you – no cups are provided. There will be a dog bowl.

Etiquette – there are some single file sections on the course, and the route is open to the general public - please be courteous . You may be in a race, but you don't have priority over others.

COURSE IN DETAIL

We have an absolutely gorgeous multi terrain 10km course for you, featuring wide farm tracks, bridleways, footpaths and woodland trails, and just very short sections of road.

You start on a track leaving the farm taking in some private fields within the first 1km. A few hundred metres of narrow woodland trail gives way to a wide track and a long gradual descent to 3km and the village of Popham.

From Popham it's gravel tracks through a woodland area to reach the church in Woodmancott and your water refill point at 4.5km. From the lowest point on the course at 5.5km you start a slow climb reaching a woodland trail at 7km.

At 8km you use some private forestry tracks followed by a gentle downhill back to Dummer Down Farm and the finish.

90% of your route is off-road and you have an elevation gain of 162m throughout. Currently the terrain is firm enough to use road shoes.

If you'd prefer to get out onto the route further, it is a short drive to the villages of Popham or Woodmancott. If driving, please take care as you will find yourself on the running route, and please park respectively of the residents.

Popham & Woodmancott are at 3km & 4.5km on the course respectively.

AT THE FINISH

Back at the finish line opposite the brewery you’ll see our big red Racing Line Running gantry. Cross the line and your result is automatically recorded.

You'll pick up your finishers medal, Dell 10km pint cup, and your drink voucher; make sure that you don't lose yours - we don't give them out twice!!

There will be water in containers for you to refill your own bottles or cups with too.

Results & Prizes – ‘live’ results will be available online courtesy of our timers, the awesome Timing Monkey.
