The Mortimer 10km has a new look for 2021, with a new multi terrain course and new organisers. As always though, the race will start & finish on Mortimer Fairground, and we have a canicross entry option for those wishing to run the 10km with their dog(s).
PLEASE NOTE - to safely manage the event in accordance with Covid requirements, there will now be no walking event or 1km fun run.
Our new 10km course takes in the beautiful local woodlands, using footpaths and bridleways. The course is undulating and uneven in places, therefore not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs.

DELL 10KM
RACE BRIEFING
Welcome to the Dell 10km, a new event part of our Ales & Trails series from breweries. This one comes from Dummer Down Brewery.

Please make sure that you have read the race instructions on the event website. It is assumed that you have read and understood this brief prior to attending the event.

Registration Opens
09:45 - Registration Closes
09:50 - Canicross 10km event starts
10:00 – 10km event starts

Registration -
All race numbers are to be collected on the day – no race packs are being posted out in advance. Your race number has a timing chip on the reverse, so please don’t bend or fold them.

The start line is just 100m from the race registration area.

The course -
We have a beautiful 10km route for you and around 90-95% is off road. It is suitable for either road or off-road shoes. With some wet weather forecast in the build, there could be some muddy/slippy areas.

We start on a gravel track a short distance from the brewery before reaching an uneven field after 600m. A short narrow section through woodlands opens to a wide track to 2km, and is gradually downhill to the hamlet of Popham at 3km.

An undulating gravel track through pretty woodlands takes you to Woomancott and the water refill station at 4.5km. More wide tracks with sweeping views lead you to 6km and a slow uphill until 7km.

With woodland paths wiggle to 9km where you retrace your steps from earlier back to the farm and finish line.

Parts of the course are a little uneven underfoot and there are tree roots throughout the woodland areas.

There are a couple of brief stretches along local roads – keep left unless told otherwise and listen for marshals instructions. You do not have priority over cars, stop if you have to.
Water refill station -
There is one water refill station on the course, at 4.5km. This is self service – a reminder again – there are no cups provided. You should plan to carry your own fluid around the course if you feel you're likely to need it; use the refill station as a top up. Dog Bowls are provided on course and at the start/finish.

Safety -
The course is likely to be uneven underfoot at times, look after yourselves and others. Along the road sections of the course, please keep tight to the left hand side at all points & listen out for marshals instructions. You do not have priority on the public paths or on the roads, be courteous and be safe.

Signage -
The course is signed with yellow arrows as well as red and white tape tied to trees/bushes. Each kilometre point will be marked. If you do not see any signage, go back to where you last saw an arrow. Pay attention!

Finish -
As you cross the finish line your result will be live online via the event website.
On finishing, you'll receive your finishers medal, Dell 10km cup and drink voucher. Water containers are ready for you to fill your own bottles. Remember – no cups are provided.

From the finish line, walk across the courtyard to get to the brewery, and you can redeem your voucher; it can be used once, and on event day only. The bar in the brewery building will be open, along with the mobile bar next to race registration.
Hot & Cold drinks, snacks and hot food are available to buy in the Honesty Cafe, along with caterers Gratefire Kitchen with their awesome BBQ food.

Massage is available in the barn for £15 for 15 mins.

Prizes will be given out at the finish line, with age category prizes being posted out afterwards.
