The Mortimer 10km has a new look for 2021, with a new multi terrain course and new organisers. As always though, the race will start & finish on Mortimer Fairground, and we have a canicross entry option for those wishing to run the 10km with their dog(s).

PLEASE NOTE - to safely manage the event in accordance with Covid requirements, there will now be no walking event or 1km fun run.

Our new 10km course takes in the beautiful local woodlands, using footpaths and bridleways. The course is undulating and uneven in places, therefore not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs.

  • Beautiful multi terrain course - see the video below for our new two lap course

  • Canicross 10km with separate start. Start times confirmed by April 3rd

  • Race Instructions emailed out & found HERE from March 25th

  • Minimum age - 16 for 10km

  • Free downloadable race photos

  • Online entries close on April 3rd or when capacity is reached

  • Staggered starts, social distancing and more Covid safe measures will be in place. Check out our Covid FAQ's & Measures.

Registration - open between 08:00 & 09:00 and will be found in our event marquees.

Collect your race number and pins. Your race number should be visible & pinned on your front. Complete the form on the reverse of your race number only if you have a medical condition that we should be aware of.

Start Time – the Canicross 10km starts at 09:00, with the 10km at 09:15.

Chip Timing – your timing chip is on the reverse of your race number, so your own start & finish times are taken when you cross the line.

Baggage – there is a bag drop near race registration.

Toilets – these are found 100m from race registration, the start line & the car park.

ON THE COURSE

Race Briefing – further details about the course and final reminders will be in the briefing. This will be online only and found from April 17th.

Terrain - The course is mixed terrain and on mainly firm ground, with short sections on potentially muddy trails. We take in small local roads, woodlands and footpaths. The course is currently dry throughout and we suggest using road shoes, subject to the weather.

Flat/Hilly/Undulating? The 10km has a total elevation gain of 85m, and contains a few undulations.

Canicross 10km – will complete the same route as the 10km event. Canicross competitors must keep their dogs on a harness throughout and can run with multiple dogs should they wish. However, prizes will only be awarded amongst those running with one dog.

Signage – the course is well signed with yellow arrows, red & white tape and KM markers.

As a multi terrain race, there will not be a marshal at every turn, look out for the signage and follow the arrows.

Headphones – we politely request that you do not use in-ear headphones for your own safety.

Water Refill Stations – none on course, only at the start/finish.

This is self service and you will need to bring your own drinks vessel with you – no cups are provided. Dog bowls are provided!

Overtaking – there are some single file sections on the course, and the route is open to the general public - please be courteous of others.

COURSE IN DETAIL

We have a true multi terrain 10km course for you, featuring some road, gravel trail, spongy forest paths, bridleways and footpaths.

The first 700m is the same as the last 700m, taking you along a quiet lane. In between, you'll cover TWO LAPS around the woodlands.

At 5km you reach the end of the first lap and you’ll need to turn RIGHT to start lap 2. Later, you’ll find yourself at the same point again, this time at 9.3km, and you’ll then continue STRAIGHT on following signs for the FINISH, taking the final 700m back along the road to the finish line.

Pay attention as you approach the end of the lap. Listen to our marshals’ instructions, but it is upto you to know which lap you’re on! ONLY RETURN TO THE FINISH ONCE YOU'VE RUN 9.3KM.

85% of your route is off-road and you have an elevation gain of 85m throughout.

SPECTATOR INFO

With our a multi lap course and staggered starts, there isn't a lot of time for spectators to reach the woodland portion of the route and get back to the finish line. You may be best staying at Mortimer Fairground and having a drink or bite to eat.

If spectators wish to see more of the course, they must do so on foot - driving on the running route may endanger runners. A good location to walk to would be the course split point, where runners continue onto their next laps or turn for the finish. This can be accessed via Longmoor Lane and is approximately 700m away from the start/finish.

AT THE FINISH

Back at the finish line in Mortimer Fairground you’ll see our big red Racing Line Running gantry. Cross the line and your result is automatically recorded.

You can help yourself to your finishers medal & some snacks.

There will be water in containers for you to refill your own bottles or cups with.

Results & Prizes – ‘live’ results will be available online courtesy of our timers, the awesome Timing Monkey.

Overall prizes will be issued at the finish line with Age Category prizes being posted out in the days after the race.
