The Mortimer 10km has a new look for 2021, with a new multi terrain course and new organisers. As always though, the race will start & finish on Mortimer Fairground, and we have a canicross entry option for those wishing to run the 10km with their dog(s).

PLEASE NOTE - to safely manage the event in accordance with Covid requirements, there will now be no walking event or 1km fun run.

Our new 10km course takes in the beautiful local woodlands, using footpaths and bridleways. The course is undulating and uneven in places, therefore not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs.

BLACKPIT 5KM & 10KM

RACE GUIDE

SUMMARY

Parking – Free onsite parking at Blackpit Farm. The farm entrance is here https://w3w.co/sectors.reckons.newest

Registration – all race numbers to be collected on the day between 08:30 & 09:45

Entries on the day – NO ENTRIES AVAILABLE ON THE DAY

Bag Drop – bags can be left at your own risk at the baggage area

Race Briefing – online in advance of race day

Start Time – 10:00

Course signage – fully marshalled & signed course using arrows, red & white tape and distance markers

Terrain – grass paths, woodland track & gravel roads. 100% away from public roads. Short sections may be muddy if we have wet weather in the build up.

It's a 5km course, so ONE LAP for 5km, and TWO LAPS for 10km.

Water Stations – ONE on the course, at 5.0Km and at the start/finish. No cups are provided, bring your own bottle/cup.

Cut off – 2 hours

Finish – medals, water, Blackpit 5km & 10km pint cup. Food available for purchase.

Prizes – 1st, 2nd & 3rd Female & Male runners in the 5km & 10km will receive prizes on the day.

There are age category winners prizes in the 10km event - those prizes to be posted out after race day.

GETTING TO THE EVENT

The event venue is the Blackpit Brewery, Blackpit Farm MK18 5LJ.

Note - the main gates to the farm are automatic, you may need to drive up to them for them to open.

Event car parking will be signed & marshalled once you're onsite - please only follow event car parking signage as no race parking is available at the brewery directly.

Please plan to arrive in good time to collect your number and get ready for the start.

From the A43/Silverstone – go past the Silverstone motor racing complex on your left hand side for less than a mile before turning left into Blackpit Farm.

If approaching via Stowe/Buckingham - follow the Silverstone Rd through Stowe, after 1 mile turn right into Blackpit Farm.

Cycling – you’ll find plenty of spaces onsite at the Brewery to lock up your bikes.

10:00 – 5km & 10km Start together

10:20 - 1st 5km finishers

10:35 – 1st 10km finishers

BEFORE THE START

Registration - open between 08:30 & 09:45 and will be found adjacent to the start area.

Collect your race number and pins. Your race number should be visible & pinned on your front. Complete the form on the reverse of your race number only if you have a medical condition that we should be aware of.

Your voucher for a free drink post event is the tear off strip on your race number.

Start Time – the 5km & 10km events start together at 10:00.

Chip Timing – your timing chip is on the reverse of your race number, so your own start & finish times are taken when you cross the line.

Baggage – there is a bag drop near race registration.

Toilets – found inside the brewery courtyard.

ON THE COURSE

Race Briefing – further details about the course and final reminders will be in the briefing. This will be online only and found from October 14th.

Terrain - The course is mixed terrain and on mainly firm ground, with short sections on potentially muddy trails. We take in private gravel roads, woodlands and grass tracks. The course is currently dry throughout so either road shoes or off-road shoes would be fine - keep an eye on the weather in the build.

Flat/Hilly/Undulating? We're using a 5km course, so it's ONE LAP for the 5km event, and TWO LAPS for the 10km. Each lap has a total elevation gain of 39m, and contains very few undulations.

Signage – the course is well signed with yellow arrows, red & white tape and KM markers. As a multi terrain race, there will not be a marshal at every turn, look out for the signage and follow the arrows.

Headphones – we politely request that you do not use in-ear headphones for your own safety. You may come across farm traffic onsite.

Water Refill Stations – ONE on course at 5.0km, ONE at the start/finish. These are self service and you will need to bring your own drinks vessel with you – NO CUPS ARE PROVIDED.

COURSE IN DETAIL

We have a lovely 5km course for you, genuinely multi terrain featuring some private gravel road, grassy tracks and woodland trails.

Starting in the field outside the brewery, you'll begin on grass until the 1km mark, where you'll pick up a wide gravel road.

Following the edge of farmland to 2km as you reach an enormous camping field; this will be slightly quieter than British Grand Prix week, when it hosts many thousands of motor racing fans.

The flat course continues on gravel, then a wide grass trail takes you into woodland at 3.5km, then a long Formula 1 style finishing straight all of the way to the end of lap point at 5km.

5KM RUNNERS - pick up "FINISH" signage at the end of the lap and you're just 150m from the end.

10KM RUNNERS - just before 5km and the water refill station, follow "NEXT LAP" signage & turn right to commence lap 2, and you'll return here at 9.9km with the finish in sight. This time around, continue straight on to the finish.

Currently, road or off-road shoes will be fine and the ground is firm.

SPECTATOR INFO

Given the nature of the course and the fact that we're using private land on a farm, we request that spectators don't explore the route beyond the start/finish field and 'end of lap' point.

Please stick around near the brewery throughout the event.

Our hosts have revised their usual policy regarding dogs onsite for us - you can now bring a dog to the event should you wish, however dogs will need to be strictly keep under control and on a lead.

AT THE FINISH

Back at the finish line opposite the brewery you’ll see our big red Racing Line Running gantry. Cross the line and your result is automatically recorded.

You'll pick up your finishers medal & Blackpit 5km & 10km pint cup. Your drink voucher is the tear off strip at the bottom of your race number - make sure that you don't lose yours, we don't give them out twice!!

There will be water in containers for you to refill your own bottles or cups with too.

Results & Prizes – ‘live’ results will be available online courtesy of our timers, the awesome Rogue Racer.

Overall prizes will be issued at the finish line with Age Category prizes being posted out in the days after the race.

Drink Voucher - we suggest that you only tear off your drink voucher after the finish, to save mislaying it!

You can redeem your voucher for a pint of draught beer from the bar in the brewery courtyard, or you can have a soft drink.

Refreshments – the team from the Blackpit Cafe will be looking after you, and are open from 08:15. They'll have teas/coffees/cold drinks on offer, snacks, hot food and their full menu available.
