The Mortimer 10km has a new look for 2021, with a new multi terrain course and new organisers. As always though, the race will start & finish on Mortimer Fairground, and we have a canicross entry option for those wishing to run the 10km with their dog(s).

PLEASE NOTE - to safely manage the event in accordance with Covid requirements, there will now be no walking event or 1km fun run.

Our new 10km course takes in the beautiful local woodlands, using footpaths and bridleways. The course is undulating and uneven in places, therefore not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs.

Please plan to arrive in good time to collect your number and get ready for the start. Event car parking will be signed & marshalled from the farm entrance.

Approaching from St Albans, the M25 or the A1 - you'll need to join Coopers Green Road and then join Symonds Hyde Lane.

Once on Symonds Hyde Lane, follow for 1km and then pick up our signage at the farm entrance. If you are being dropped off, please do not enter the farm, our parking marshals will show you a drop off point a short walk away.

Number.jpg

Registration - open between 08:45 & 09:45 and will be found near the start/finish area.

Collect your race number and pins. Your race number should be visible & pinned on your front. Complete the form on the reverse of your race number only if you have a medical condition that we should be aware of.

Start Time – the 10km starts at 10:00.

Chip Timing – your timing chip is on the reverse of your race number, so your own start & finish times are taken when you cross the line.

Baggage – there is a bag drop near race registration.

Toilets – found near the start/finish.

ON THE COURSE

Race Briefing – further details about the course and final reminders will be in the briefing. This will be online only and found from July 24th.

Terrain - The course is mixed terrain and on mainly firm ground, with short sections narrow and potentially uneven. We take in small local roads, farm tracks and footpaths. The course is currently dry throughout and we suggest using road shoes, subject to the weather.

Flat/Hilly/Undulating? The 10km has a total elevation gain of 94m, so contains a few undulations but nothing hilly.

Signage – the course is well signed with yellow arrows, red & white tape and KM markers. As a multi terrain race, there will not be a marshal at every turn, look out for the signage and follow the arrows. â€‹â€‹

Headphones – we politely request that you do not use in-ear headphones for your own safety.

Etiquette – there are some single file sections on the course, and the route is open to the general public - this could be walkers, cyclists or horse riders; please be courteous . You may be in a race, but you don't have priority over others.

Water Refill Stations – ONE on course at 5.0km, ONE at the start/finish. These are self service and you will need to bring your own drinks vessel with you – no cups are provided.

Our suggestion is that you carry water with you and use the refill station to top up bottles etc should you need to.

COURSE IN DETAIL

We have a true multi terrain 10km course for you, featuring some road, bridleways, footpaths and woodland trails.

This is a TWO LAP course. The start of the 2nd lap IS NOT at the finish line - but at the 5km water station.

Here, you'll need start lap 2, then you'll reach the same position again at 9.9km, turn for the finish line.

The first 1.5km is along a farm track before you reach a short section of single track road.

From 2km onwards you'll be back onto some tracks and paths around some recently harvested fields to hit 4km.

4km sees a  sweeping downhill section to some shaded woodlands before you emerge back at Symonds Hyde Farm and the end of lap 1. Turn for lap 2 and repeat until 9.9km. Fork right for the finish and it's a final sprint for the line.

85% of your route is off-road and you have an elevation gain of 94m throughout. Currently the terrain is firm enough to use road shoes.

SPECTATOR INFO

If spectators wish to see more of the course, we would suggest that they do so on foot - driving on the running route may endanger runners as the country lanes here are narrow.

Given likely timings and the nature of the running route, spectators are unlikely to get too far before needing to return. A good location to walk to would be the "end of lap one/start of lap two" point, which is just 100m from the start/finish area.

AT THE FINISH

Back at the finish line opposite the brewery you’ll see our big red Racing Line Running gantry. Cross the line and your result is automatically recorded.

You'll pick up your finishers medal, 3 Brewers 10km pint cup, and your drink voucher. Make sure that you don't lose your voucher - we don't give them out twice!!

There will be water in containers for you to refill your own bottles or cups with too.

Results & Prizes – ‘live’ results will be available online courtesy of our timers, the awesome Rogue Racer.

Overall prizes will be issued at the finish line with Age Category prizes being posted out in the days after the race.
